Good morning my friends!
It occurred to me as I finished up the last of my Unit 3 work this morning that I've been a bit on the grumpy side so far this holiday season... Financial worries, trying to maintain a 4.0 in each of my 3 classes while still finding time to do all of the "mom things" I need to do and the "wife things" as well... I've let these things get to me when I should be thankful that I have the opportunity to go back to school, thankful that I have two bright and beautiful children and a great husband!
One of my oldest and dearest friends lost his 5 year old step daughter in a school bus accident a few short weeks ago and here am I, stressed out over not being able to buy my kids as many presents as I'd like to. At least I have both of my kids with me... I can't imagine what Christmas will be like for my friend and his wife, for the father and step-mother, for the siblings and other family left behind... A close friend of mine passed away in September, he was 31 years old and left behind a wife and 2 young sons... Another dear friend passed in November, leaving behind a wife, 3 grown children, several grandchildren and an 11 year old son... My life is not nearly so bad as I've been telling myself these past few weeks... I have a wonderful family and some truly amazing friends!
On this note, I wish you all the very merriest Christmas...and if you don't celebrate Christmas, enjoy the paid holiday and have the happiest (insert whatever holiday you celebrate here) ...and have a safe and Happy New Year!!!

Hello Tatum,
ReplyDeleteCan you believe I am reading student blogs on Christmas morning? Truth is I was looking for a way to post something on my own blog and am in the process discovering a whole bunch of new and exciting features of blogger.com, including receiving notices of student blogs.
Your post is so compelling I have to respond. I too suffered a bit of holiday grumpiness yesterday morning. As the day wore on, yes I too began to count my blessings and realized I am just happy to wake up still alive every morning and know I am one of the most blessed human beings on earth because all five of my adult children are still alive and healthy, as well as my three granddaughters and one step daughter and two step grandsons.
I was grumpy because G'Pa chose Christmas Eve morning to let his friend install a new air conditioner to replace my non-working air conditioner, we had to take time to replace a headlight bulb (I have been driving on brights for a week), and my granddaughter screwed up my verizon modem so that I could not get immediately online.
Needless to say the day got better and better as I remembered to count my blessings. Dinner at my daughters was fabulous, everyone liked their gifts, and we spent a hilarious evening playing Taboo and the Green Game! I came home with left-overs that I did not have to cook, and I am going back today for more games & snacks. The weather is beautiful, and I might take a bike ride first.
Happy, happy holidays to you and your family, whatever you are celebrating. A text I received from one daughter who is spending the holidays with friends in New Mexico (having escaped the Kansas City icy weather)read:
Happy winter celebration festivities!
